2011 White Mountain Tour

Those of you who know me understand that I am not a religious person. All you have to do is to come to one of our quarterly breakfast meetings and you can see it for yourself. It is a wonder I have not been turned to salt or beer or whatever happens to those people in the bible. Anyway, we are faced with a challenge of "biblical" proportions – what to do about the White Mountain Tour?

As you are aware we have the obvious issue of fire. Where there is fire there is smoke. Even though the Wallow Fire is 40% contained, the issue with the smoke is a major health problem. Next we have ash. Wherever there is smoke there is ash. From discussions we have had with local residents the ash is every where. A car drives by and throws it into the air. This morning the Arizona Republic predicted "Tsunami like floods," in event of rain; and I am not making that up. That is an exact quote. However, I predict with certainty we will not face any Tsunami's; but we could have lots of mud on the route when it rains, and it rains in the White Mountains in July. Finally there is the issue of Locusts*. Now you understand why I started with my biblical references. We have fire, smoke, ash, Tsunamis' and Locusts*. I do believe there is a definite message from a much higher authority than the President of the Phoenix Metro Bicycle Club; cancel it.

So our sincerest apologies for any problems or disappointments this may have caused. It is a wonderful ride and I sure hope we can do it next year.

* I made up the Locust part. But what the heck, if you are looking for reasons to cancel why not added it in too. I took the idea from the "Arizona Republic" Tsunamis. If they can make it up, why can't I?
